Crushed Optimists

We are twin brothers who grew up in Central Washington. This blog is devoted to the life of Seattle sports fans, as well as various other topics that we will espouse for your enjoyment. We could be called another OFFICIAL SEATTLE SEAHAWKS site, but we'll take our uneducated crack at the Mariners, Sonics, and Huskies as well. A Seattle Sports Blog? Must be the land... of crushed optimism!

White Sox Suck

This will be a daily feature until the White Sox either clinch a playoff spot or get kicked out of the playoffs (please Jesus).

Allow me to explain.

I hate the Yankees. Of course. There is no reason that a $200 million payroll should be fighting for a playoff spot, and currently be on the outside looking in. I laugh at that, and especially at their starting pitching, which is pathetic.

At this point of the season, I would rather see the Yankees in the postseason then the Chicago White Sox.

I'm sorry, White Sox fans. I feel your longstanding pain. Believe me, I'm a Mariners fan.

It's just that I'm sick and tired of Ozzie Guillen. Smartball. Scott Podsednik being voted for MVP. Dustin Hermanson becoming the next coming of Trevor Hoffman. Carl Everett. The Hawk (He Gone). Writers lapping it all up and proclaiming GM Kenny Williams a "genuis" for a trade like the one for Freddy Garcia, where, by all accounts, he got hosed, even if the results haven't exactly worked out for the Mariners yet. The fact that the offense only scores by the home-run ball. The existence of Timo Perez in a major-league uniform. The overuse of the word "scrappy". El Duque.

Can you imagine the hysteria if, God forbidding, they actually won the World Series? At least the Red Sox deserved to win last year. They had the #1 offense, 2 aces, a shut-down closer..... they were the real deal.

Because of this, I have no choice but to cheer on the Cleveland Indians in their quest to overtake the White Sox and win the Central.

Saturday, September 17
Twins 5, White Sox 0
Johan Santana completely shuts down the White Sox offense, as they managed only 4 hits. El Duque got the crud beaten out of him, allowing 8 hits, 4 walks, and 4 runs in 3 2/3 innings. They struck out 16 times. Ha! Leading the charge was Jermaine Dye with 4 strikeouts, reminding me of our own Richie Sexson. Guillen's response? He will "evaluate" El Duque's place in the rotation, possibly replacing him with top-prospect Brandon McCarthy.

Indians 5, Royals 4
Chris Lee notched his 17th win for the Indians, which I doubt anyone expected at the beginning of the season. I guess he shuts down other teams besides the Mariners now. That's at least moderately satisfying. You know it's going well for a team when Coco Crisp hits a 2-run homer to lead your team. For the Royals, Emil Brown had a 3-run shot, but it wasn't enough. I feel bad for the Royals, but.... I want the Indians to win, so..... too bad.

The Indians are now 3.5 games back.

Tomorrow's Matchups:
KC (Jose Lima) vs. Cleveland (C.C. Sabathia)
Chicago (Jose Contreras) vs. Minnesota (Kyle Lohse) - Remember that Lohse threw a temper tantrum a little while ago, reminding not a few people of our own Ryan Franklin. Ah well. I guess I can cheer for him for 1 day.
