Crushed Optimists

We are twin brothers who grew up in Central Washington. This blog is devoted to the life of Seattle sports fans, as well as various other topics that we will espouse for your enjoyment. We could be called another OFFICIAL SEATTLE SEAHAWKS site, but we'll take our uneducated crack at the Mariners, Sonics, and Huskies as well. A Seattle Sports Blog? Must be the land... of crushed optimism!

Ultimate Explosion!

Welcome to today's Explosion!

- I'm sorta looking forward to the UW-Air Force game September 3rd. I just would like to see what the attitude of this team is. I'm willing to give Tyrone Willingham a few years just to see him give a sense of respectability back to our team. I appreciate everything he's done so far.

- This Bob Huggins thing is obviously something I don't know enough about. He has to have really ticked some people off for Cincy to fire him in their first year in the Big East after recruiting season is over. They are playing with fire. Still, he's definitely going to land on his feet. Someone will pay him a lot of money. He's a proven winner.

- Yet again, we see another article mentioning the Arizona Cardinals as the class of the NFC West. They will perish. Or in other words, Kurt Warner will perish behind that offensive line. Also, the next person who notes Orlando Huff as a prominent offseason addition gets a tire iron to the head.

- This Lance Armstrong stuff appears more like a witch hunt. Please... urine samples from seven years ago have inconclusive evidence? That's enough for the head of the Tour de France to chime in with an opinion? Why don't people sue quicker about this?

- HDTV rocks my world.

- Willie Bloomquist is only hitting .267 now. Can it please be time for him to go? Can we just say that he got on a hot streak? Let's take a look at his previous seasons...

2003: 196 AB, 30 R, 7 2B, 2 3B, 1 HR, 14 RBI, 19 BB, .250 AVG, .317 OBP, .321 SLG
2004: 188 AB, 27 R, 10 2B, 0 3B, 2 HR, 18 RBI, 10 BB, .245 AVG, .283 OBP, .330 SLG
2005: 225 AB, 25 R, 14 2B, 1 3B, 0 HR, 18 RBI, 11 BB, .267 AVG, .301 OBP, .338 SLG

My friends, this is what I call a return to the mean. That mean is... Wee Willie is a mediocre player who is stealing at bats from Jose Lopez. At least we could hope that Lopez could contribute a .300 OBP and definitely add better than a .338 SLG. To the whole "ignitor" supporters, I'd like to offer that Willie was actually more valuable in 2003! This farce needs to end. This is a 27 year old utility infielder who we need to part ways with at the end of the year. End of story. Stats don't lie.
