Crushed Optimists

We are twin brothers who grew up in Central Washington. This blog is devoted to the life of Seattle sports fans, as well as various other topics that we will espouse for your enjoyment. We could be called another OFFICIAL SEATTLE SEAHAWKS site, but we'll take our uneducated crack at the Mariners, Sonics, and Huskies as well. A Seattle Sports Blog? Must be the land... of crushed optimism!

Sonics Optimism

I've been pretty down on Seattle for most of this summer, and of course our offseason overview will come closer to the beginning of the season (another month and a half), but I actually am feeling much better about what we've done.

- John Hollinger from ESPN gives us a C- mainly for letting Antonio Daniels walk. Yes, we will miss Daniels, but he was not worth the money. We will thank Rick Sund next offseason when we have the money to resign Luke Ridnour and Nick Collison.

- Art Thiel is optimistic as well. Anytime "The Franchise" is pleased with something we need to give it heed.

Why am I feeling better? Because we resigned Vitaly Potapenko? Possibly... but even more with the likelihood of matching the T-Wolves offer sheet to Damien Wilkins. I was lying awake in bed last night thinking through our lineup (too much information? too bad for you) and was pleased.

Think about this starting five:

PG: Luke Ridnour
SG: Ray Allen
SF: Rashard Lewis
PF: Nick Collison
C: Vitaly Potapenko

Not too shabby at all. In fact, I'd say we have really improved at two positions, PF and C. Nick can rebound as well as Reggie, play better defense (remember him against Tim Duncan?) and actually score. Anything's better than Jerome James at center, so Vitaly doesn't have much to do. So how about the bench?

6th man: Vladimir Radmanovic
PG: Rick Brunson
SG/SF: Damien Wilkins
C: Robert Swift
PF: Danny Fortson

We are already 10 deep again with quality backups at every position. The only significant downgrade is Brunson, and we were already going to be asking for more out of Ridnour this year anyways. Depending on Johan Petro's availability and we will have as much size as anyone in the league. This is all with the possible returns of Reggie Evans and Flip Murray.

Sonics fans are going to have to deal with the fact that the pundits are doubting. Still, I say we surprise again. Let the Bob Weiss reign commence!
